So I'm working from home today, when, at 9:30ish, during a conference call, I hear a snow blower running nearby. I looked out the window, and it's my neighbor. I wasn't even going to try to shovel it until later today [pt cruiser for size reference].
My neighbor is awesome. I only have met the guy a couple of times, but I used to work with his wife before I even moved to this house. The guy even plowed a couple other houses too.
My wife made cupcakes as a thank you.
Also, Floridian born dogs love the snow, go figure.

There should be more of this.

Dude, where do you live? I envy that perfect snow you've got there, and I live in friggin' Norway.

Michigan, the one and only, :). It started snowing two nights ago, and didn't let up until last night. It just gently fell. My car had a literal foot of snow on it.

More awesome neighbors? I agree. In half an hour, once I'm off work, I'm dropping off the cupcakes, giving them high fives, and planning to drop many "thank you's" into the conversation. :)

I keep seeing more and more pictures from Northern US that leads me to think I need to move there. I guess I'd choose Wisconsin or Minnesota as a Norwegian though :P

A great place to look into would be the U.P., aka the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It's nickname is God's Country, because it's just mostly wilderness, old mining towns, and sparsely placed cities/towns. It looks amazing.

Sounds like my kinda place :) But I guess it's hard to find work there as well. I'm thinking about St. Paul or something, should be able to find some work in a "largish" town I hope.

Awesome, Lobsters and Pizza :) But again, are there any vacancies (as in a job) there for me? :P

True about the job thing though. My dads uncle got hurt on the job, received an insurance payout, and moved up to the UP. He literally built his own house, and runs a scuba shop now. The guy is awesome.

I can do many things (read in Jeremy Clarksons voice :P) But nah, seriously. I'm a salesman at heart, I can sell sand in Sahara or Ice in Northern Canada. I've got knowlegde when it comes to normal home appliances. And I'd say my English ain't that bad :)

Ha, I only know of Michigan really, and I proudly support it! What other state makes BetterMade Chips, Faygo pop, Town Club Soda, mackinaw fudge, or Koegels Hot Dogs?
Even if you don't live here, it's worth the visit, :). It's one of the best states there are (IMO).

I am sure there is something to be had. I have 2 car dealers in the state that I work for that would be happy to have you. One Nissan that you would make alot of money at (#1 in the region) and a smaller ford dealer with some great people there

You know how to send me a message in a more private manner mate, I'd suggest you do it. I'm all for moving to the US for a year or two.

I haven't been back to the midwest (as we call it) for a while, but it's got a pretty stable economy, values talent and *is* cold. No serious downhill areas unless you travel to Lutsen, MI - but lots of cross country. Depending on your talents, it could be a great place to be. Only exploration would determine that.
Of course, there is a little incentive. A gazillion miles of interstate to cruise. Nevermind that.
